When asked how Deep Purple’s sound had evolved on their upcoming album, Abandon, manager Bruce Payne told JAMTV, “It hasn’t. It’s Deep Purple.”

Slated for a May 15 street date, Abandon is Deep Purple’s 24th studio release since their 1968 inception. Unlike 1996’s Purpendicular, which Payne called a “soft, transitional work,” Abandon hearkens back to “classic, heavy Purple.” Classic, except for the absence of guitarist and co-founder Richie Blackmore.
